Okon & The Movement | live

Rooted in improvisation, freed in beats

DSC_0178_220 This 6-piece collective, hailing from Antwerp, saw the light of day when their paths crossed fortuitously. The vast array of influences that each individual brings to the table, results in a tasteful palette of possibilities and inspiration.

Relying on everyone’s voice and colours, rough ideas are being molded into songs: deeply rooted in improvisation, grafted onto Soul and freed in beats.

After a remarkable string of shows in Belgium and parts of Europe, including a tour in Germany, the band presents it’s first big accomplishment: the Ayan JuJu EP. Ayan refers to Ayanagalu, God of the drummers and percussionists in the Nigerian Yoruba-tribe. JuJu refers to West-African Witchcraft. Ayan JuJu is the wholesome magic that comes bubbling up from the interplay of six individuals, where groove turns out to be the greatest common divisor.
